In a year where Ubisoft announced and shipped the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake, a revival of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 might not be the highest-profile remake project, but it’s an appreciated one nevertheless. While the announcement did not mince words about the scope and scale of the project — the 1999 title is being brought back to life for both PC and consoles — IGN got to go hands on with the game in a remote session to see how this version compares to the nearly three-decades-old original.

Just when he thought he was out, Songs of the Past pulls Geralt back in.

After finishing the four-or-so-hour preview build of Metro 2039, the upcoming first-person shooter sequel from Ukrainian developer 4A Games and falling completely in love with it, I reached out to the team to ask some questions about how they've approached the latest entry in their post-apocalyptic franchise – both in terms of the game itself, but also because their real lives have changed so much since Russia's invasion of their country in 2022.

Delicious up until you realise you've wasted all your gas mask juice trying to open a closet door.

In an age where single-player first-person shooters are slowly going extinct because they only make money for their publisher once while multiplayer live-service shooters vie for our time and attention on a daily basis (and often contain lots of bullsh*t, like microtransactions and/or drawn-out gameplay loops), Metro 2039’s single-player-only craftsmanship and attention to detail after my first few hours with it have me already prepared to call it my favorite first-person shooter in a long time.

Oops.

So anyway, I started eldritch blasting.

Showa American Story succeeds in crafting an unforgettable, eccentric B-movie world. However, its deliberate jank and niche style mean its general polish still lags behind other modern AAA action games at this point. The sheer density of cultural parodies is impressive, but whether the game can sustain this tone over a dozens-of-hours-long campaign without exhausting players remains to be seen. Coupled with its current shortcomings in combat depth and mechanical feel, Showa American Story is shaping up to be an incredibly unique, highly flawed, yet undeniably fascinating ride.

The uncanny trailer shows the perspective of infants through space and time.

My gut says a regular PC will not like this game.
